My first job was in a boutique camera shop, learning as much about cameras as I did in how to sell them. Shortly after studying photography at college I wound up being offered a job in video production from a kind regular at the camera shop. I spent 5 years predominantly working for an international NGO in various locations around the world including India, Togo, Ethiopia, Haiti and Guatemala. I gained experience with a variety of cameras; Canon ENG rigs right up to one of the early RED ONE bodies, filming in challenging environments and then editing back home in the UK.
Whilst working I continued my passion for photography, taking pictures whenever I could in-between filming. In 2010 I won a photographic competition judged by the world renowned photojournalist Don McCullin.
Photography has always helped me to nurture my sense of composition and I carry that over into my work with moving image. My photographic portfolio can be viewed at www.jarman.photography
I decided to go freelance and move to London and ended up working with a wide range of agencies in both branded content and documentary in both a shoot and/or edit capacity, working for brands like Virgin Atlantic, Adidas, BT, Channel 4, Nat Geo and Jaguar Land Rover.
